I Have A New Favourite Foundation

Foundation is my favourite beauty product. The thing I’d take to a desert island, the first thing I would repurchase if all was lost. But I am fussy. I do try new ones here and there. But for the most part, I would rather repurchase an old favourite than risk a new disappointment. I know what I like. The It Cosmetics CC Cream during the summer months and the No7 Stay Perfect Foundation in the winter. There are others. I like the Chanel Vitalumière Aqua. I like the Guerlain Lingerie De Peau (though I do not like its price tag). Was ever so impressed with the Wet n Wild Photofocus Foundation (and thoroughly enjoy its price tag). But overall, I think the options from No7 and It Cosmetics are the very best.

Until now. I have a new favourite foundation. It’s not even a foundation, its a BB cream – though honestly, what is it the difference? The Bali Body BB Cream was sent to me, hashtag gifted, would never have ordered it myself – £25 for a BB cream from a tanning brand, not likely – but I will absolutely be ordering it again. It’s excellent. A sheerer base product than I would normally choose, but it does so much in terms of blurring and colour correcting that it feels enough.

It has a unique texture, a thick and matte cream, and has a curious way of minimising shine but also adding a hefty dose of radiance. For the record, I don’t mind a bit of shine generally. But whereas the It Cosmetics CC cream imparts glow via a dewy finish, the Bali Body BB Cream delivers it via what I am assuming is a pearlescent pigment within the formula (in a similar manner to the Clinique Even Better Glow Foundation) but without any hint of shimmer. The result is soft matte glowy skin, more flattering than dewy glowy skin, particularly for oily skin types. Dry skin types will love it too, it is extremely flattering on dry and textured patches, even as it fades, and generally looks extremely natural. I find it best applied with a brush, buffed into the skin.

It only comes in four shades, as is pretty standard for this type of sheer product where one colour can be used by a variety of skin tones. The brand says that the Dark shade is suitable for black skin. I have the shade Natural which is a great match for my current (faux) tanned skin. It’s definitely an everyday type of base. It might not be enough for night, though I haven’t actually been out at night in so long that I have no idea what evening makeup looks like now. (I am going out tonight! To a restaurant! Wahey!) It is the perfect base for summer days. Might be perfect for summer nights. Will let you know.

It’s full name is the Bali Body BB Cream SPF 15 Protect + Correct and while it definitely puts a shift in on the correcting front, I’m not sure what the protect part of the name refers to. If it’s the fact that it contains SPF 15 let’s clear that one up: ain’t no protection here. I use SPF 50 with this applied on top. But other than the name, it is flawless. Highly recommend.

Bali Body BB Cream SPF 15 Protect + Correct*, £25.95, here.

Til next time,

Hayley
