Beauty Pie have thrown some money at their fragrance collection. You can tell they are legitimate fine fragrances, even before first spritz. So many little design details that make them feel elevated, the embossed box, the weighty glass bottle, the magnetic lid closure. Properly high-end not dissimilar to Le Labo, I thought. Well what do you know, not only do they look Le Labo like, they’re created by the same nose – Frank Voelkl of cult classic Le Labo Santal 33 and, more recently, Glossier You – in the same location, the perfume capital of the world, Grasse, France.
Frank Voelkl created three scents for Beauty Pie, all elegant but my personal favourite is the Petals, Heliotrope & Ambrette. Don’t know what those things are, but they smell great. Had ordered the sampler set to test them all out, see if any of the options spoke to me. I adore this one. Floral but warm and musky, it smells like summer, hot skin and suncream.
Here’s the rub. It doesn’t last. I mean at all. Disappears almost instantaneously, have never know a fragrance to vanish with such haste. Granted I haven’t got a hugely sensitive sense of smell, but to my nose there is not a trace of this scent within the hour, it doesn’t linger in hair nor on clothes. Surprised it’s an Eau de Parfum, not an Eau de Toilette. Even so, still not sad I bought it. Comes in a whopping 100ml bottle so have been enjoying a liberal spritz and the initial burst of beachy coconut, although fleeting, like summer itself.
