The concept is simple, but clever and beautifully executed. Founder Emolyne Ramlov created a collection of lipsticks, lip liners and nail lacquers that enable you to coordinate your lip and nail shades. The thirty shades in the range have been careful curated to cater for every ethnicity and are all named after an African country, city or landmark in homage to Emolyne’s birthplace.
The lipstick case is a thing of beauty, a hexagonal gold component with glitter panels and a lipstick bullet that pops out when you push the end, Chanel style. The product inside is gorgeous too. I have the lipstick in the shade Zanzibar and it is everything I hoped it would be. The colour, a bright orange-based red, is the exact shade I was looking for, vibrant, summery, teeth whitening.
Your perfect shade might be different, so there is a clever Shade Finder tool on the website that can help, though as with all shopping for colour cosmetics online there is an element of guess work. The formula is fantastic, a soft matte, flattering on dry lips but also highly pigmented. It’s pretty unique, the velvety texture of a regular lipstick with the long wearing properties of a liquid one. It doesn’t smudge, it doesn’t transfer and it fades beautifully.
The matching nail lacquer is equally impressive, the formula is thin but creamy and properly opaque. I can’t work out if the brush is also special but something about this polish is magic – usually I flood the cuticles when I paint my own nails, but not with this. The neatest at home manicure I have ever achieved.
