What I’m Loving This Week: 12.01.20

My first What I’m Loving This Week of the decade. Should probably make it a good one then. Interesting, not about sitting in my house eating soup. Or, I don’t know, watching TV and drinking tonic water.

WATCHING

You, Netflix.

The plot of You, a psychological thriller from Netflix Originals, is infuriatingly implausible and yet impossible to turn off. Watched both series within a week even though it gave me nightmares. Don’t let that put you off, I am easily spooked, nerves of jelly. Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg, the obsessive, bookish protagonist, is so good that you can almost overlook the gaping plot holes. Though it will make you shout at the telly.

TRYING

Super Retinol High Dose Booster Treatment, Beauty Pie.

New from Beauty Pie, a stronger version of their excellent Super Retinol serum. I expect to look ten years younger within the week.

WEARING

Winona Metallic Leather Ankle Boots, Anthropology.

My husband bought me boots for Christmas. He’s a brave man. I am exceptionally fussy about shoes and will not wear anything that is even slightly uncomfortable. I had been looking for new boots and had tried on a great many pairs, but none had achieved the requisite comfort levels. I also find surprises a bit stressful: I never know what to do with my face. It wasn’t a completely blind purchase, I’d spotted them online. Still, risky business. But he totally fluked it, they are the dream. Comfortable, go with everything, make me look like Noel Fielding which pleases me no end. Fortunately they are out of stock, so I can tell you about them safe in the knowledge that you won’t be tempted to break your new frugal resolutions.

DRINKING

Aromatic Tonic Water, Fever Tree.

Listen, I’m trying Dry January this year, but don’t hold me to it, OK? Am something of a giver upper when it comes to matters of moderation. I’m a maximalist, what can I say? More is more. However I am also very fond of my liver, and thought he deserved a holiday on account of all his overtime this December. So far it’s going well, largely because I failed to break Mr. Wells last weekend despite my finest efforts. And because I discovered a trick – flavoured tonic water. Specifically, all the lovely Fever Tree ones. Get a posh glass, chuck in a garnish and an elderflower tonic and the brain thinks it’s a genuine G&T. Particularly when paired with a bowl of crisps (one thing at a time, eh?) on the sofa in front of a murdery box set. My favourite is the pink one, the Aromatic Tonic, feel free to eye roll at me and my Millennial tendencies.

Til next time,

Hayley

Am not quite dry, bit going more for a “steady on, January” approach. Add some Seedlip to that tonic if you need further convincing. Garden 108 is the best one. They’ve also started doing a No-groni, if things get really tough!

Oh I’d forgotten about Seedlip! Great idea. I didn’t know that they did different flavours, I will definitely check it out, thank you. H x

I still need to watch the second season of You. The first one was so creepy. The tonic water looks really nice!

It’s even creepier and even more ridiculous, if you can believe it! I’m excited for season 3.
