The H Edit: What I’m Loving This Week

USING

My use-up makeup mission has led me back to the classic that is Benefit Hoola Bronzer. Hoola is a touch dark for my skin tone however the sun made a brief appearance and I got over-excited, had visions of bare legs and sandals so got the fake tan out. And on my newly tanned self it is perfect. Have been doing something new, using it as both bronzer and eyeshadow for a sort of monochromatic makeup look. It is surprising excellent as eyeshadow, long wearing, a matte warm brown, flattering on all eye colours but particularly good on blue.

WATCHING

[Trigger Warning: child abuse]

Leaving Neverland (2018), HBO/Channel 4. Have you seen it? It’s a hard watch. This feature length documentary, split into two parts, is an in-depth interview with two men and their families about their time with Michael Jackson. This and the excellent follow up interview with Oprah Winfrey are as important and illuminating as they are devastating.

Should you be after something a little less challenging let me point you in the direction of YouTube and Trinny Woodall. Trinny is such an upbeat, positive soul, I didn’t know I needed her in my life, nor how much I had missed her being on TV. It is so uplifting watching someone speak about something with great knowledge and enthusiasm, even if that thing is as frivolous as fashion. Though I’m not even sure I would say fashion is frivolous, if you consider it in terms of creativity, self-expression and self-care. Trinny’s new YouTube series, The Trinny Takeover, is a makeover show, not groundbreaking but thoroughly enjoyable. She also has a series that involves going into shops and trying stuff on which is rather addictive.

BUYING

I’ll level with you, No Buy March is going pretty well but I did buy a foundation except that I didn’t because I used my Boots Advantage Card points. A loophole! It’s this one, the Maybelline Dream Urban Cover Foundation, currently £8.79 (usual price £10.99) at Boots. Was intrigued because it looks incredibly similar to the It Cosmetic CC Cream that I love – full coverage, SPF 50 – so I had to try it out. Full review coming soon but spoiler alert, it’s not a dupe for the It Cosmetics but I really like it anyway.

Til next time,

Hayley
