By Terry Beauty Favourites

By Terry is a brand that I’ve always found intriguing. Chic, French, expensive. Not widely available either, have only ever seen it in SpaceNK, though a quick Google search tells me that it’s also stocked in premium department stores Selfridges and Harrods. Still, pretty niche.

Niche but not underrated. The brand features several cult products that regularly feature in Best of Beauty award line ups. Namely the Ombré Blackstar eyeshadow crayons, and the famous, and eye wateringly expensive, Baume de Rose.

When I found this little set, a selection of mini versions of their bestsellers, it felt like a great way to try out the brand. One of the Blackstar crayons in the shade Bronze Moon, and the famous lip balm, Baume de Rose, in a tube rather than the standard pot (major win, I do not enjoy a lip balm in a pot, you can’t get the last of the product out and it gets all under your nails).

The Blackstar eyeshadow isn’t particularly bronzey for a shade called Bronze Moon. I would describe it as taupe with a silver reflect. Looks even more cool toned on the eyes than it does in the swatch. Either way, it is gorgeous. It might be the best thing I have ever put on my eyelids. A rich taupe that has a very light, bright silver running through it, but without looking overly glittery. It really is special, the colour looks dark and light all at the same time. Plus it is so creamy to apply and so easy to blend. Scribble it all over the eyelid, blend at the edges and voilà, a smokey eye that looks like it took much effort and many shades. Long wearing too – a little will have worn from the middle of the lid by the time I remove it at night, but it doesn’t smudge or smear, nor does it crease. It is £29 for a full size and worth every penny.

The Terrybly Mascara is a miss for me, doesn’t do enough. What it does do is lovely separation and a little lengthening, in a similar way to the Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara or the YSL Luxurious Mascara. These high end mascaras fan out lashes beautifully and build without clumping, so if you like a natural look you might like them. Though I would still be tempted to suggest that you just use a more impactful mascara, like the Benefit BADgal Bang! Mascara, with a light hand to get the same result in half the time.

The By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Powder is superb, if you can be bothered with the faff of a loose setting powder which I almost always cannot. Lovely though, sets everything in place without looking dry or flat. Think it would be amazing for those who need oil control but don’t want to look too matte.

The By Terry Baume de Rose is incredibly similar to the Clinique Night Mask that I am obsessed with, except that it has a strong rose scent. Not unpleasant but it is quite sweet which does make me hungry. It’s a lovely product but not for me – I try to avoid fragrance in lip balm and could really do without any additional encouragement on the eating Turkish Delight front.

All told, very nice indeed. Premium cosmetics that feel premium is every respect: packaging, performance and price. By Terry Beauty Favourites Gift Set, £49, here.

Til next time,

Hayley
