What I’m Loving This Week: 29.09.19

What a week. Where should we start? Remarkable women changing the world – Greta Thunburg, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Lady Hale – and I redecorated my downstairs loo. Big week. Huge.

BUYING

Was very invested in the possibility that Lady Hale might be sending a coded message via her choice of brooch. For those not in the loop with British politics, our new Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, got permission from the Queen to suspended Parliament, ostensibly in order to push through No Deal Brexit. The Supreme Court, president over by Lady Hale and her spider brooch, has ruled that suspending Parliament was unlawful, the implication being that he lied to the Queen. What a tangled web we weave, eh Boris.

Bought this spider tshirt as a nod to the legendary Lady but also because my biggest small person has already expressed her desire to dress as a spider for Halloween. Two birds, etc.

PAINTING

That same small person started school this September. The house feels very quiet, except that it isn’t because the other small person is rather shouty. Nonetheless, I appear to be filling the void by painting stuff, this week it was the turn of the downstairs loo.

The downstairs loo is not a glamourous room, all cheap white tiles with yellow grout and flaky paint. I should have taken before and after photos, but had no idea that the makeover would be quite so successful. So far, my limited decorating experience has taught me the following: everything looks chic if you paint it in a dark colour. Plus, the naff tiles and yellow grout look much whiter in comparison.

The colour is Farrow & Ball in Downpipe, colour matched by Valspar, because we had paint left over from the living room and the decision to start painting was something of a whim.

WEARING

Hooray for jumper season. Most of my knitwear is in the loft, so have been wearing this new one from ASOS.

ADMIRING

Did you see this picture of Phoebe Waller-Bridge celebrating at the Chateau Marmont after Fleabag cleaned up at The Emmy’s? Iconic. I want to hang her in my new downstairs loo. Though both Lady H and Phoebe W-B get major legend points, legend of the week has to go to climate activist Greta Thunberg for her speech at the 2019 UN Climate Action Summit. Have you seen it? Spine-tingling. Imagine being that motivated, about anything, at sixteen? How lucky we are to have her.

Til next time,

Hayley
