In Search Of: The Perfect Nude Lipstick

Nude lipstick can be a tricky biscuit. Difficult to get right. We’ve all picked a wrong ‘un, one that emphasises dry lips, makes your teeth look yellow or adds years to the visage. Too shiny and it looks dated, too matte and you look, well, deceased. I tend to go too light and end up with skiers mouth, and not in a cute Claudia Winkleman way. Find a good one however, one that’s just right, and it will be your most loved beauty product.

The right nude lipstick goes with everything, every outfit, every makeup look. Perks you up, not washes you out. There have been nudes I’ve liked. Charlotte Tilbury in Kim K (though it is a bit too matte). NARS in Honolulu Honey (needs a tan). I love the No7 Lipstick in Honey Bloom, but it’s a definite colour rather than a my lips but better shade. Clinique’s Nude Pop is great too, but does lean pink.

So the big news: I have found the perfect nude. Or rather, my perfect nude. It does of course depend on skin tone. I’m just letting you know in case it’s your perfect nude too. Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer in Beige Pop is it, the holy grail, the (my) perfect nude. The formula, as with this whole lipstick range from Clinique, is spot on, creamy, flattering and opaque. And the colour is fantastic, a light, bright beige, a true beige, neither pink nor orange (though it looks rather pink in photos and swatches). It’s a versatile little number too, can look quite different depending on what lipliner you use (should you use one at all).
