Skincare ingredients are so confusing! Let’s break it down. Today…Peptides.
What Is It?
Peptides are proteins that replicate natural substances like collagen, elastin and keratin.
In ingredients lists as peptides, amino acids, palmitoyl, Matrixyl, Argireline.
What Does It Do?
Collagen gives skin strength and structure, but we produce less of it as we age. Peptides encourage collagen production which smooths, plumps and firms the face.
What’s It In?
Serum, moisturiser. Matrixyl (palmitoyl) is found in many products at various price points.
Such As?
- The Ordinary Buffet, £12.70.
- Olay Regenerist 3 Point Super Firming Serum, £29.99.
- No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Serum, £32.95.
- Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream, £70.
When to Apply?
After cleansing, before anything else. Peptides need to penetrate skin to be effective, so favour serums over creams.
Next time…Niacinamide.
