Wardrobe Stories: The Cull

Wardrobe clearout blog

Had a major wardrobe clear out. Major. Was pretty ruthless. Doesn’t fit, gone. Seen better days, gone. Haven’t worn it in years, unlikely to start wearing it now. Dresses that are too short or too tight, straight to the donation pile. Jumpers and tees that are too tatty, loungewear I’d be embarrassed to answer the door in, anything ill-fitting or uncomfortable. All of it, gone.

Can’t recommend it enough, the wardrobe cleanse. It feels so good to open your wardrobe and only see options you can wear, right now, today. Sure I’ve saved a few things, a couple of sentimental items, a few bits that I’m not quite ready to part with. But even still, it was quite the cull.

Which showed up (quite literally) a few holes. I need new t-shirts people and I need them now. Mine have had it. And I wear a t-shirt almost every day, on its own or under jumpers. I save the particularly bobbly ones for under knitwear, but often find myself in situations where I’m too hot but don’t want to take my jumper off. Which now I’ve said it out loud feels truly idiotic. Buy new t-shirts you ridiculous human.

So I have. Broke No Buy March by buying a bunch of basics. I’m not even sorry. Went for these, the Weekday Prime T-Shirts because my friend has one and every time she wears it I ask her where it’s from. I hope she isn’t a person who irons t-shirts because that is never going to happen. I don’t iron anything, life’s too short.

Have you seen Queer Eye Season 3? Finished it, gobbled it up. Wish I had the self-restraint to ration it, space it out a little more, spread out the joy. But no, binge-watched it. God I love the Fab Five. Can barely stand to watch the news at the moment, I open Twitter and peek at it with half-closed eyes, braced for all the fury and shouting. Not sure what is happening to the world but we don’t seem to be being very kind. Apart from the Queer Eye guys, projecting love and light out into the darkness. Though Tan France did tell a chap to iron everything, even his t-shirts. No, Mr. France. I love you, but no.

The Weekday Prime T-shirts come in a bunch of great colourways and are just the right shape, oversized boxy fit, crew neck, cropped sleeve. Dig it. Just as well as this is what I’ll be wearing now. With a French tuck of course.

Had to have a read of this as it’s something I’d planned to do yesterday but got side tracked. I usually have a wardrobe cull in March so that I can see what I need to replace etc. Isn’t it great to open your wardrobe and just have options right there instead of having to rummage!

By the way, what a fab wardrobe you have! Our home is a barn conversion so inherently the ceiling slopes down either side shortening the wall height in our bedroom. Frustrating as we can’t have normal height wardrobes., it’s a big room. Just no real wall space! Great post and love your writing style, I found it a comical read. x

Thanks so much Sam, glad you enjoyed it. I’ve never really done a proper wardrobe clear out before, I’m pretty good with most stuff but I do tend to hoard clothes. Space is always the issue isn’t? I feel your frustration with the wall space (although barn conversion, dreamy!). H x

Be careful with the white t, it likes to discolour if you throw it in with anything darker. Oh and they are a defo non iron 😉
