Epic new concealer alert. Have discovered a concealer to rival the Tarte Shape Tape, but one that is so much easier to buy. You can pick it up on any UK high street. And get colour matched. No guessing your perfect shade online, no shipping fees. Just a quick trip to an Estée Lauder counter.
I don’t think it is actually new. The Estée Lauder Double Wear Concealer is part of the existing Double Wear line. But while the Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation is the best selling foundation in the UK, the concealer seems to have slipped through the net. Which is surprisingly considering that it is excellent.
The other surprising thing is that, apart from being long wear, it’s nothing like the foundation. Double Wear is serious business, thick and semi-matte in finish. This concealer is very thin and light-weight, with a dewy, radiant look. It blends effortlessly and looks incredibly natural. Plus it has coverage. Lots of. It also lasts.
Coverage wise, it’s very similar to the Tarte Shape Tape. But it has a more luminous finish, looks fresher, more skin-like. Though once set with powder they look virtually identical. The wear time is similar too, but I think the Estée Lauder might even last a touch longer. Very flattering on dry skin and fine lines. Doesn’t crease. Does a decent job on blemishes too. An excellent all rounder.
It doesn’t build in the same way that the Shape Tape does. If you want more coverage I find it’s best to apply this concealer, then leave it to get tacky before blending. Tarte Shape Tape is £22 for 10ml. Estée Lauder Double Wear Concealer is £24 for 7ml. So it’s pricey. But worth it. I prefer it to the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer (similar coverage but not as thick, easier to blend, less creasing). I prefer it to the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer (similar consistency but more coverage, much longer wearing).
