Am low level obsessed with finding the perfect face palette. One that does it all. Have been searching for years. My precise reasons for wanting it have changed over time – travel, speed, general laziness – but the quest has been constant.
When I say does it all ideally I mean the following: powder, bronzer, blusher, highlighter. Boom. Face done, lightning speed. No scrabbling around for various compacts. Everything you need at your fingertips. Easing the morning rush, ideal for travel or the day-to-night handbag.
You can find the trios, the blush/bronze/highlight, no trouble at all. Everyone makes them. The Sleek one lived in my work desk drawer for years. The Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look In A Palette has a lot of options for one little compact. But finding an option that also contains pressed powder is more of a task.
Had considered and dismissed the It Cosmetics Je Ne Sais Quoi Face Palette, £32. The bronzer looks very warm, the blush so very pink. But then QVC had an offer, a bundle deal, which made it worth a punt.
Plus, the Bye Bye Pores Silk Pressed Powder was on my wish list. Buying it individually is £25 for 9g. This palette has 6.25g of the pressed powder. That’s £17 worth right there.
And the powder is good. Only the tiniest bit is needed to stop creasing and set everything in place. Though it isn’t better than the No7 Airbrush Away Translucent Finishing Powder (£13.50 for 10g) which is cheap at half the price.
I needn’t have worried about the bronzer being too warm. It barely shows up. I like a lightly pigmented bronzer, but this is light and I am fair. The blush has more pigment and is a flattering cool toned pink, similar to Benefit Dandelion. The highlighter is lovely, subtle but brightening, no glitter.
The great thing about this palette is that it’s foolproof. You cannot go wrong. Doesn’t need a lot of blending, impossible to be too heavy handed. If you are extremely fair it might be perfect. Everyone else might find it disappointing.
