Thoughts On: Buyers Remorse

I have enough makeup. I really do. Things run out, sure. But not eyeshadow really. Got enough eyeshadow to last a decade. This year was supposed to be about streamlining. Taking a more minimalist approach to makeup. Considered purchases, quality over quantity. Not getting sucked in by new launches, collabs, hype.

Not a capsule collection as such, but more discerning enthusiast than one-woman-Sephora. You know? We just don’t need it. The mass consumption of stuff is bad for the soul. Those makeup collections on Instagram. The waste. Girl, you only got one face. Them liquid lipsticks are gonna go baaad.

Don’t really want to contribute to all that. Have a serious case of buyers remorse re that Colourpop haul. Tell me, do you get buyers remorse too? Do you hide evidence of shopping at the bottom of the bin? Should we all just, err, buy less? Or does the want want want monster always win?

Til next time,

Hayley

Buying beauty products is addictive, I have to confess. I have two drawers full of cosmetics, lotions and potions, perfumes and so on… they multiply as if by magic each month. I don’t need or use about 60% of those goodies.
Recently I have been feeling guilty, but it’s because of the waste of plastic and packaging, in the end it just goes in the bin and not much can be recycled in my hometown. Some brand used to take back glass bottles, but now I can’t see anything out there to encourage less waste or products that are environmentally friendly.

Absolutely. So much plastic. And it totally does seem to multiply, as if by magic! I’m going to try and be more mindful from now on. H x

Buyers remorse for me is pretty rare now a days but two years ago it was a regular weekly feature. I started being more strict on myself for using products up more and since then I feel like I’ve got myself into a mindset that gets me more excited for finishing stuff than it does for buying, it also has made me much more mindful of what I’m adding to my collection and it’s rare when a package arrives that I gulp with regret as I open it anymore!

That is such a great mindset. And I agree, there is something so satisfying about finishing products! I need to do the same. H x
