Had never been in a Wilko until the collection of this order. There is one in my town but it’s newish, not a long term resident. I had thought it was a DIY shop, like a mini Homebase or something. But no, it sells makeup. Specifically, it seems to be the UK stockist of US makeup brand Essence. Which led me to it’s door.
Essence is a super affordable brand. Cheaper than Maybelline or Bourjois. Your Barry M equivalent. Bargainous. I shopped the full range at Wilko via their website, and ordered what one might describe as an Essence haul.
My picks weren’t random. I’d seen American Youtuber Tati talk about Essence Lip Liner. But I actually hopped online in search of the Fit and Fresh Primer after reading the review by beauty blogger Gemma Etc (here). I’ll review it another time but, spoiler alert, it good.
The mascara! Yes. It costs £3.30. Now that is one low cost mascara. Cheap as chips. There can’t be many other brands that can match that, Barry M included. But here’s the thing. It’s brilliant. Amazing at creating length and separation, doesn’t smudge or flake. Everything you need from a mascara. For less than four quid.
The tube is ugly. Elegant it is not. I’m not sure who the target market for Lash Princess mascara is exactly, but it’s too good to be left for the tweens. If you can overlook the packaging and would like an epic mascara for £3.30, then the target market is you. Let’s be Lash Princesses together.
Essence False Lash Effect Princess Mascara is £3.30 + P&P at Wilko, here.
Til next time,
