You know those situations. The gym, the pool, the beach. A bare face is the obvious choice, but you need a little something. You want to wear makeup but you don’t want people to know you are wearing makeup.
That said, if you want to wear full glam to the beach, please do go and be your fabulous self on the sand. Similarly if you think wearing even a scrap of makeup to the pool is totally bonkers, I feel you too. Both of these people inhabit my mind, and the internal tussle leads me here. To beach ready no-makeup makeup.
I don’t mean a paired down makeup look. No no. I want to go undetected. Fool the imaginary makeup police into thinking that I am a slap free zone. Subterfuge.
First step, base. People can always tell if you are wearing foundation. Even tinted moisturiser. You have to skip it to go truly incognito. Stick to sunscreen and a dot of concealer. Clinique City Block Sheer SPF 25, £18.50, has a tint that seems to blur imperfections just a touch. For a little coverage that blends invisibly but still takes the edge off dark circles, try the e.l.f Undereye Concealer and Highlighter, £4.50.
A lip and cheek stain that suits your colouring is a no-makeup failsafe. Benefit make great ones, including the pinky toned Benefit Posietint, £25.50. Dot onto cheeks and blend with fingers, then paint onto lips for a hint of colour that could be au naturel. Finish with an SPF lip balm if sunbathing.
Mascara will blow your cover. Go without if you can. If not, choose waterproof and apply with a light hand. L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes Waterproof Mascara, £9.99, is my no-makeup makeup mascara of choice. Start at the lash root and stop before you get to the very tips. And skip the bottom lashes.
Til next time,
