Occasionally, I make a makeup purchase on a whim. I take a detour from my usual makeup buying behaviour – read blogs, watch YouTube, make multiple visits to swatch item, watch more YouTube, check bank balance repeatedly – and just go for it, because it’s shiny and I want it. Or, as is the case here, because it’s on offer and I have a No7 shaped hole in my makeup bag.
I think I’ll always feel fondly towards No7 due to nostalgia – my teenage self was very keen on their eyeshadow trios (in brown, brown and brown) and my brief stint as a Boots employee was positive, enhanced immeasurably by the staff discount.
The odd eyeshadow has even made its way into my make up bag in more recent years, hey Matte Calico, on account of a £3 off voucher.
But nostalgia only gets you so far, and a hop, skip and a too-many-crappy-mascaras later and here we are, a No7 free zone.
Until now. And the midst of what could be called a No7 spree. I’ve dived in, a makeup detective, hunting for hidden treasure, balancing on the little black stool talking to Consultants about undertones.
The No7 Shimmer Palette in Caramel, £13.50, is a super powder highlight. The mascaras, still a miss overall. But these cream sticks! Ahh. You know it’s good when it makes it into the holiday make up bag.
No7 Pop & Glow Cream Blush Stick in Rose Blossom, No7 Instant Radiance Highlighter and No7 Instant Radiance Bronzing Highlighter, £9.95 each, were products I bought on a whim, and used all summer long.
If you like cream blush, this is a great one, and the Bronzing Highlighter is my go-to day time, natural look highlight.
I alternate the blush stick with my fave Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm, £19, and it’s on a par in terms of quality – nice colour pigment, blends like a dream – if slightly shorter wear time.
Gotta love a hidden gem. No7 for the win.
Til next time,
